The Red Hot Chili Peppers will make their first live appearance in more than two years on January 29th in Los Angeles, at a tribute concert for Neil Young. The show will honor Young as the 2010 Musicares Person of the Year for his "exceptional and influential artistic accomplishments as well as his philanthropic work, which has included many generous charitable activities over the years."

Also scheduled to show up at the event are Dave Matthews, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jackson Browne and others.
The Chili Peppers have not all performed together since the end of 2007, when the band completed touring behind its 2006 album, Stadium Arcadium.
Bassist Flea and drummer Chad Smith performed with singer Anthony Kiedis last May when he was honored by Musicares for his work with the organization's MAP Fund, which helps musicians recover from addiction.

The Chili Peppers reconvened last month to begin writing their 10th studio album. During their hiatus, Flea went to music school, Smith played with Chickenfoot and the Bombastic Meatbats, and Kiedis worked on a TV version of his memoir Scar Tissue, while guitarist John Frusciante issued solo projects.
Musicares was established in 1989 for musicians to have a place to turn to in times of financial, medical and personal crisis. |
