Rock News: QUIET RIOT FRONTMAN KEVIN DUBROW DEAD AT 52

Quiet Riot frontman and founding member Kevin DuBrow was found dead on Sunday (November 25th) at the age of 52, according to The Vegas Eye. DuBrow's body was discovered in his Las Vegas home by friends, and at press time a cause of death had yet to be determined. Quiet Riot drummer Frankie Banali issued a statement saying, "I can't even find words to say. Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend Kevin DuBrow."

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have announced the full itinerary of their 2008 North American tour. The band wrapped up their current U.S. leg on Monday (November 19th) in Boston, with a show that featured such rarely performed songs as the tour premiere of "Tenth Avenue Freeze Out," "This Hard Land," and a trio of tunes from Springsteen's second album, 1973's The Wild The Innocent And The E Street Shuffle: "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)," "E Street Shuffle," and "Kitty's Back," which featured former J. Geils Band lead singer, Bostonian Peter Wolf.

Happy Birthday to Joe Walsh of the Eagles, who celebrates his 60th birthday today (November 20th)! Walsh is also an accomplished solo artist, sideman, and session player, as well as the leader of the James Gang. In 1969, Walsh replaced Glenn Schwartz in the James Gang, and shortly after, the band released its debut album, Yer' Album, followed the next year by James Gang Rides Again, which included the hit "Funk #49." Their 1971 album Thirds featured the band's minor hit "Walk Away."

Eagles singer Don Henley told CNN.com that the band won't be recording any more albums. They released their Number One album, Long Road Out of Eden, via Wal-Mart because they wanted to try something new. "Everybody's been calling for a new paradigm in the record industry," he said, listing the Internet, indie labels and Starbuck's as new-fangled outlets for releasing music.

Paul McCartney says that the Beatles' entire catalog will likely be available digitally next year. McCartney told Billboard that, "It's all happening soon. Most of us are all sort of ready. The whole thing is primed, ready to go -- there's just maybe one little sticking point left, and I think it's being cleared up as we speak, so it shouldn't be too long. It's down to fine-tuning, but I'm pretty sure it'll be happening next year, 2008."

Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page hasn't confirmed any rumors about a full-scale tour, but he sure is hinting at it. Zeppelin is gearing up to do a one-off gig in London on December 10th, and Page recently told Guitar World magazine, "It's a bit selfish to do just one show. If that's it, we probably shouldn't have taken the genie out of the bottle."

Elvis Costello says that his recording days might be a thing of the past. The prolific Costello told Mojo magazine he thinks recording and promoting new work has become a thankless and expensive task: "I'm not of a mind to record anymore. There's no point. Making a record requires me to take all the money that a label advances me and give it to other people -- musicians, producers and studio owners -- and then I spend six months doing the record company's job for them because they won't pay anybody anymore to promote and market (the album)."

Steve Van Zandt will launch his own rock and roll high school beginning nationwide next year. Van Zandt, through his Rock and Roll Forever Foundation, the MENC: National Association for Music Education, and Scholastic, will bring rock and roll into U.S. classrooms by "highlighting the impact that rock and roll music had on historic events in the country and around the world."
